What do I believe and why do I believe it? Can I defend my beliefs in God and the Bible to a Morman, or a Jehovah Witness, or some other cult member? Do I really know what I believe about my Christain Faith? What are the "Essential truths of the Christian Faith"?
"Every Christian is a theologian. We are always engaged in the activity of learning about the things of God. We are not all theologians in the professional or academic sense, but theologians we are, for better or for worse. The "for worse" is no small matter. Second Peter warns that heresies are destructive to the people of God and are blasphemies committed against God." – R.C. Sproul
My goal for this class is determine what we believe and why we believe it. Some people, myself included, have grown up in a Christian church, believing certain things about Christianity because that is the way I was always taught. But confronted by someone who doesn’t believe the things I believe, or doesn’t believe the Bible the way I do, I was unable to defend my beliefs. "Just because" is not a winning argument in a debate. Apologetics is that field of Christian study that seeks to answer the challenges of cults, evolution, philosophy, false doctrines, and whatever else would seek to undermine its truth (1 Pet. 3:15).
